Jungle Jade

• Papilio karna ♂ from Indonesia
• Specimens raised on a butterfly farm in Sulawesi, Indonesia
• The glass was cut in our studio in Calgary and filters out 50% of UV rays to protect the specimen from fading.
• A member of the Achillides group of swallowtail butterflies, marked by the green dots that look like sprinkles all over the wings and the body. 
• The green patches on the hindwing show irridescence.
• The frame is 10x10 inches (27x27 cm) black shadowbox and can be hung on a wall or stand on a shelf.

Fun Facts about the Jungle Jade

• Papilio karna can be found in Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Palawan (Philippines)
• This butterfly was the first present Anshul gave to Stefanie at the beginning of their relationship. They have been married since 2007.
• This butterfly is named after the Hindu god Karna : Karna was born with aspects of his divine father Surya – the earrings and armour breastplate – that made him an immortal at birth. However, despite being warned, Karna prefers to lose these natural gifts in order to uphold his reputation as the one who always gives dāna (charity), particularly to Brahmins, as being more important than his own life.
